The Brock Badgers moved into first place in CUFLA West with an 8-5 home win over the Western Mustangs.

The Brock University men's lacrosse team (5-1 CUFLA) moved into sole posession of first place in the CUFLA West Division as they defeated divisional rival Western Mustangs by the score of 8-5 at home Saturday afternoon.

The Badgers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes and led 4-1 after one quarter. In the second quarter the two teams would exchange goals with Brock leading 5-2 at the half. ?

In the third quarter, Western answered with two more goals making it a one goal game 5-4 with nine minutes left. in the quarter In the opening two minutes of the final quarter, the two teams would exchange goals making it 6-5 for Brock, before the Badgers closed out the contest with the final two goals.

Late in the game things got heated between these two rivals with 13 fourth quarter penalties. Western coach Jeremy Tallevi was drawing up magic book trick plays that had their goalie Zach Grace on attack which proved to be costly as Brock's?Brandon Slade?(Orangeville, Ont.) added an empty netter to secure the victory.

Leading the Badgers was?Travis Arch?(Mississauga, Ont.) who recorded two goals and two assists.?Gage Board?(Brampton, Ont.) contributed with a goal and two assists while?Kyle Davis?(Caledon, Ont.) (1G, 1A),?W88Brandon Slade?(1G),?Brandon Staal?(Courtice, Ont.),?Mitch Robertson?(Whitby, Ont.) and?Mark Debrone?(St. Catharines, Ont.) (1G) rounded out the scoring.

In goal, Brock starter?Ian Duffy?(Ajax, Ont.) was outstanding registering 18 saves for the victory. Western's Zach Grace collected eight saves in the loss.

The Badgers next action is October 2nd on the road against the McMaster Marauders. Brock returns home on October 5th and 6th when they host McMaster and Toronto.
