CUFLA Update:?Down the stretch

Carleton came away with a big upset victory over Trent this weekend to remind everyone else that they haven’t run away to hide. Their 12 -11 tilt over Trent on Saturday and 10 -9 win at Queen’s on Sunday gives the pesky Ravens an outside chance at third place in the East standings.

The fireworks start in the East on Thursday night when Bishop’s visits McGill. The Gators surprised the Redmen in their first match, 7-6. McGill finish their schedule with a big home game against Trent, on Saturday. The Redmen can still live up to their pre-season #1 ranking with a couple of impressive victories, but they won’t come easy. If a road trip to Montreal isn’t enough for the Trent Ex guys, on Sunday they go?to?Lennoxville?to play Bishop’s; the most dreaded road trip.

Two victories should secure the conference title for one of the top three teams. Two losses will tie you with Carleton for third. The Raven’s can jump from 6th place last year to third with a win over lowly UofT.

Action in the West starts on Wednesday when Laurier visits Mac. Mac has jumped up in the standings and are challenging Guelph for the second place spot. This should be a warm up for the season showdown at Guelph on Saturday. The Marauders pulled off the upset 7-6, in their first match and started the Gryphons on their mid-season swoon.

The Guelph guys have a big weekend. On Sunday they travel to Brock for their rematch with the Badgers. Guelph came into this season with high hopes. A big weekend will set them up for the play-off run to defend the cup. Mac and Brock would love to leave them with a moment of doubt.

While all this drama has been going on Brock remains Brock. New coaching staff, lost their number one scorer; ?so what? Last week the Badgers spanked Mac 12-5 and outlasted Western 6-5 to secure the first place spot and as yet, another undefeated season. They will host Laurier on Saturday and Guelph on Sunday. Don’t expect any let up. Perfect season’s and championships are important at Brock. It’s become a tradition.
